Most conventional grands that we rebuild have a one piece pinblock. There are some notable exceptions, however.  In this photo, we show a four section pinblock that we replaced on a Chickering 6' 4" Grand.  Chickering was a great innovator, and we have yet to see one of his grands where he wasn't trying out some new idea.  One of his ideas was this four section pinblock, which makes piano assembly easier in some ways and harder in others.   Each individual section of this pinblock has to fit perfectly into its recess in this casting, which is an auxiliary assembly to the plate.  While replacing this pinblock, we made sure each section fit precisely.
